ITT appoints Ken Hunzeker to lead Colorado Springs-based Mission Systems for its defense segment

ITT Corporation (NYSE: ITT) today announced the appointment of Ken Hunzeker as president and general manager of its Mission Systems business area, which is a one of four business units that comprise the company's Defense and Information Solutions segment.


In this new leadership role, Hunzeker, 58, will be responsible for delivering systems integration, operations, sustainment, engineering, logistics, and space launch and range support solutions to military service customers and government agencies around the world. Most recently, Hunzeker served as the as vice president of government relations at ITT Defense and Information Solutions where he was responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships at the senior level with the U.S. Department of Defense, the military services and other government agencies. In his new role, Hunzeker will report to David F. Melcher, president of ITT Defense and Information Solutions.

Before joining ITT, Hunzeker spent a career in the United States Army where he held a variety of senior leadership roles, rising to the rank of lieutenant general. Most recently, he served as Deputy Commander, United States Forces Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was also the Commanding General of V Corps in United States Army Europe and the Seventh Army in Germany. During a previous tour in Iraq, he commanded the Civilian Police Assistance Transition Team responsible for training and equipping more than 400,000 Iraqi security forces. He has also commanded the First Infantry Division in United States Army Europe and Seventh Army and served as the Vice Director for Force Structure, Resources and Assessment (J-8) on the Joint Staff in the Pentagon.

He received a master's degree in System Technology (Command, Control and Communications) from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif., and also has a master's degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from National Defense University in Washington, D.C. He received his bachelor's degree from the United States Military Academy in West Point, N.Y.

Hunzeker replaces Michael Gulino who stepped down as president and general manager to become the chief development officer and to support ITTs upcoming transformation before retiring in early 2012.

In January 2011, ITT announced it would separate the company's businesses into three distinct, publicly traded companies. Under the plan, ITT will execute tax-free spinoffs to shareholders of its water-related businesses and its Defense & Information Solutions segment. The corporation expects to finalize and execute the plan before the end of the year.
